What Are Decider skills?

Decider skills are a set of 32 skills that are designed to enable participants to make effective changes to help manage distress, regulate emotion, increase mindfulness, promote effective communication and to live a more skilful, less impulsive life.

Decider skills uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy to help people develop skills to recognise their own thoughts, feelings and behaviours, allowing them to monitor and manage their own emotions and mental health

Decider skills are where complex psychological theory has been developed into effective, evidence based skills that are engaging and memorable. The Decider Skills are delivered in an original, fun and creative style, using role plays ( by the trainers ), props, imagery and music, that makes them easy to learn and easy to teach for use in may different settings.

What to expect

  • 6 sessions lasting 1.5 hours on a weekly basis
  • Maximum number of participants is 12
  • You will receive a pack every week containing the skills covered in that session
  • Week 1 you will be asked to complete a questionnaire to monitor the progress of your symptoms and progress during the course. This will be repeated at the last session
  • You can be referred to the skills group by a Primary Care Mental Health Worker
  • The training is delivered by 2 primary care Mental Health Workers Trained in delivering Decider skills
